King Charles reportedly threatened his brother, Prince Andrew, with stripping his titles, before the royal gave them up himself.
Prince Andrew has been in the spotlight over the past few years due to his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. However, recently it was also revealed that Andrew had allegedly reached out to the Metropolitan Police in London to dig up dirt on Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s victims.
But mere days before this revelation came to light, Prince Andrew announced he was giving up his titles, although it has been reported that the King threatened to take them away anyway.
According to the Daily Mail, King Charles said he would need to remove Andrew’s titles unless he “saw sense” and fell on his sword.
He reportedly made it clear that he wouldn’t hesitate to take “further action” if his brother didn’t give up his titles following numerous revelations about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
It was said that Andrew was digging in his heels with a “startling lack of contrition,” and sources have said that Charles found the situation “intolerable.”
However, if the King wanted to remove his brother’s titles himself, he would have needed to go through Parliament to do so, and it was reported that he never wanted to use up members’ time on this matter.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, an insider said, “The thought of him still continuing to use the titles and honors that had been conferred upon him for another day, month or year while other options were explored and enacted was intolerable, for the sake of the wider family. And at last, for the wider good, Andrew saw sense.”

A source also said that the decision needed to be made before the publication of Virginia Giuffre’s memoir, which will be released posthumously on October 21.
“When the end came, it was relatively quick, swift, and ruthless. Andrew may not have been able to read the room, but the Palace could,” a source stated.
Another insider also added that the announcement was considered an “imperfect outcome,” but that it was the best course of action considering the circumstances.
Along with Andrew losing his titles, his former wife, Sarah, the Duchess of York, will also be giving up her’s. However, Prince Beatric and Princess Eugenie will continue to hold theirs.
