Whoopi Goldberg and the women of The View opened Tuesday’s episode discussing Donald Trump’s White House ballroom after shocking images of a demolished East Wing were released.
When plans for the $250 million, 90,000-square-foot ballroom were laid out by the president, he promised that the White House would not be affected by the construction. The hosts blasted Trump over the demolition, with Whoopi passionately declaring, “That is not your building. You don’t own that building.”
She and Joy Behar then burst into song, singing “You don’t own it” to the tune of Leslie Gore’s 1964 hit song You Don’t Own Me.
The hosts dubbed Trump an “annihilist,” a “human wrecking ball,” and “America’s Marie Antoinette,” as they argued that he does not have the right to destroy any part of the White House, as it does not belong to him, but rather the American people.
Whoopi sang, “You don’t own it. You cannot take it down. You don’t own it. Take your behind to another town.”
While the president’s pet project is privately funded, he did not receive construction approval from the federal agency that oversees such projects.
Whoopi slammed the president for destroying the historic building. “I mean, come on. You don’t own that building. That is the people’s building. You don’t own it,” the actress fumed. “That would be like me going over to Trump Tower and saying I’m gonna build a disco.”
Fellow host Sunny Hostin agreed, adding,”This is a metaphor for what’s going on in our country. He is tearing down the house. He is tearing down the people’s house.” He does seem to think that it’s his house.”
Joy pointed to the optics of the lavish project. “People are losing their government jobs,” she noted, “It’s a very bad look right now, to be building and demolishing all this gold tacky crap that he loves.”

The hosts critiqued Trump’s taste while examining the mock-up of the ballroom. “It looks like a casino,” Whoopi said, as Sunny echoed, “It looks like Mar-A-Lago, it’s tacky.”
They also snuck in a subtle jab at the First Lady, noting that the section of the White House that was destroyed was where the First Lady has offices and staff, but that it didn’t matter much since Melania’s “never there.”
Joy seethed, “He’s pooping on the American people literally with that thing,” referencing a bizarre AI-generated video Trump posted in response to the ‘No Kings’ protests this weekend that depicts him flying a military aircraft and dumping what appears to be fecal matter over people marching in the streets.
Construction on the new ballroom is expected to be completed sometime before the end of Trump’s second term in January 2029.
