John Stamos is clarifying the type of love he has for his longtime friend, Lori Loughlin.
“A lot of people were like, ‘Oh, you guys were romantic,’” Stamos, 62, recalled on the Monday, October 20, episode of the “Good Guys” podcast. “I happened to say she was the one who got away in something, and I think it was before I met [my wife] Caitlin [McHugh], and it was an interesting thing.”
In the episode, podcast host Ben Soffer said he asked listeners before the taping if they had any questions for Stamos.
“The biggest question was, ‘Come on. Aunt Becky. Bring her in. Bring her into the fold,’” Soffer shared.
Stamos replied, “A threesome? No.”
Soffer later clarified, “They didn’t ask that. They asked, ‘Would you leave your wife for her?’ We’re not doing that.”
Stamos, however, made it clear that he’s not interested in leaving or opening up his marriage. “No f***ing way,” he explained. “I’m not Mormon.”
As detailed in his 2023 memoir If You Would Have Told Me, Stamos said there was a “very small window of the two of us being single at the same time.”
Ultimately, Loughlin, 61, married Mossimo Giannulli in 1997 before separating in October after nearly 28 years of marriage. As for Stamos, he married McHugh in February 2018.

“I don’t mean to belittle or pare it down to Grease, but Lori was Sandy, you know before the leather and all that stuff, before that song,” Stamos explained to podcast hosts Josh Peck and Soffer. “Rebecca Romijn was Sandy in the leather and the, ‘Tell me about it, stud.’ There was a moment where I had the choice, I think. And I was more into, you know, the rebellious. Lori was sweet and I loved working with her, but she was too nice for me.”
Stamos and Romijn got married in September 1998. The actor later filed for divorce in August 2004. Romijn went on to marry Jerry O’Connell.
When describing Loughlin, Stamos called her a “saint” who is “America’s sweetheart.” As for their relationship, he clarified that it “was always platonic.”

“I always thought that we made out on some ride at Disneyland,” Stamos joked. “I think she said it didn’t happen, so I don’t know if it was something I made up in my mind, some sort of fantasy.”
As Loughlin copes with a public breakup, Stamos is offering support to his longtime Fuller House costar and friend.
“Lori lives in my neighborhood,” he explained. “I was over there a lot, and she would come to our house a couple of times. Caitlin’s been good about it. It’s tough.”
While Loughlin hasn’t publicly commented on her split from Giannulli, 62, her rep confirmed to Us on October 2 that the pair — who share two daughters, Isabella Rose, 27, and Olivia Jade, 26 — have separated.
In response to the separation, Stamos made it clear that he is team Loughlin.
“All of a sudden they’re split up and I know she’s just devastated,” Stamos said. “For a girl who, you know, has lived her life really well, is a good person, a good mother, a good wife. I know all this for a fact. To be thrown into, now, this separation and exploding, blowing up her family this way. And I just hate to see her go through this.”
Stamos said he was “taking a fifth on that” when asked about the rumors Giannulli cheated on Loughlin, but revealed, “Whatever he did to her, it busted her up to the core.”
TMZ reported that Giannulli had no comment about Stamos’ allegations in the podcast. Us also reached out to Giannulli’s lawyer for comment.
