Sources cited by Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice claim he believes such a position would allow him to serve King Charles without returning to live in the United Kingdom.
The proposal is also said to reflect his family’s current circumstances. One insider claimed Meghan Markle has “no interest in moving back to Britain.” Because of that, Harry apparently sees an overseas posting as a practical middle ground. It would allow the couple to keep the life they have built while giving the duke an official royal role.
To support that idea, Harry is seemingly looking to royal history. According to insiders, he believes there is a precedent for such an arrangement. They pointed to the Duke of Windsor, formerly King Edward VIII, who was appointed Governor of the Bahamas after his abdication. The report claims Harry views that chapter as “proof” that members of the royal family have previously served in roles outside Britain.
Still, palace officials are seemingly not convinced. “The Palace isn’t entertaining the idea,” one royal source told the outlet. The insider also claimed the late Queen Elizabeth had made it “crystal clear” there would be no “half-in, half-out” model for working royals. Per the source, that policy remains unchanged.
