The final radio transmission from Brett James’ plane has been released a month after his tragic death.
The Grammy Award-winning star was killed in a plane crash alongside his wife, Melody Carole, and her daughter, Meryl Wilson. James was piloting the plane when it went down in North Carolina.
After tributes to the star flooded in after his death, the National Transportation Safety Board has released its report on the fatal crash. In it, the Jesus Take The Wheel singer was approaching Macon County airport at about 2:48 p.m.
The plane was around 6,800 feet in the air when James radioed that he “intended to perform a 360-degree turn to land.” This was his last transmission.
In the report, the plane then rapidly descended to 6,300 feet. It then allegedly turned and started approaching the runway once it was at 3,300 feet.
James’ was best known for his songwriting skills in the country world – most notably Carrie Underwood’s song Jesus Take The Wheel, which earned him a Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 2007.
He also wrote songs like Tim McGraw’s It’s a Business Doing Pleasure With You; Kenny Chesney’s When the Sun Goes Down; and Rascal Flatts’ Summer Nights.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Carrie Underwood penned a tribute to her late collaborator and friend. “Some things are just unfathomable. The loss of Brett James to his family, friends and our music community is too great to put into words,” she began the post.
