Back in the mid-90s, I had two Toni Braxton CDs: Her first self-titled album and Secrets on shuffle in my fancy CD player. I could relate to her frustration with a soon-to-be ex in “Love Shoulda Brought You Home Last Night” or the elation one feels in the beginning of a new relationship in “You Makin’ Me High”.
So imagine my excitement when I heard that Braxton and Lifetime have teamed up to produce movies inspired by her music! Two movies have been announced, with hopefully more coming our way.
The first movie, Toni Braxton’s He Wasn’t Man Enough, is set to premiere on Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime as part of the network’s Love of a Lifetime November Romance movie slate and will star Braxton alongside Essence Atkins and Yvette Nicole Brown. The second film, Toni Braxton’s Breathe Again, will star Braxton, Atkins, and Cree Summer and is slated to be released some time in 2026. The films are part of a multi-picture deal Braxton has with Lifetime to deliver stories that embody strength, sisterhood, and second chances.

In Toni Braxton’s He Wasn’t Man Enough, Braxton plays bestselling author Mel Montgomery, whose world unravels when she discovers her boyfriend Richard (Thomas Cadrot) has been deceiving her. When Mel learns Richard is now engaged to her estranged college friend Monica (Atkins), the two women, with the help of Mel’s loyal best friend Candy (Brown), set aside old wounds to stand together. What begins as betrayal becomes a story of resilience and solidarity—proving Richard picked the wrong trio to mess with. Because in the end, it was never about the man who failed them, but the women who chose each other. Always and without question… sisters over misters.

The second film, Toni Braxton’s Breathe Again, reunites Braxton with Atkins who will be joined by Cree Summer. The film follows three women—Jennifer (Braxton), Vanessa (Summer), and Evelyn (Atkins)—who meet as contestants on a reality dating show and suffer heartbreak under the spotlight. Their shared rejection sparks an unlikely sisterhood that carries them from Los Angeles to a new life in Seattle. There, they navigate fresh starts, second chances, and the messy, hilarious realities of dating, friendship, and family. Jennifer rediscovers her voice as an artist, Vanessa rebuilds her interior design business while opening herself to love again, and Evelyn faces her grief by daring to embrace joy and possibility. Along the way, the women learn that while romance may come and go, female friendship is the love story that lasts a lifetime.
