Keith Urban has requested fans to stop speculating about his song lyrics amid his messy divorce from ex-wife Nicole Kidman. According to a TikTok video by Lindsey Rob, the country singer had a loud and clear message for his fans and concertgoers (via Fox News Digital).
On October 17, during the final night of his “High and Alive Tour” in Nashville, Urban asked fans to stop reading too much into his song lyrics. “I’ve been covering like this for a long time. Stop reading s**** into it,” Urban conveyed to the crowd. He then proceeded to perform the acoustic version of his 2002 hit “You’ll Think of Me.”
Notably, the 57-year-old singer tweaked the lyrics of the song for his Nashville performance. So, instead of the original chorus line, “You’ll think of me,” he screamed, “But I betcha think about me!”
Another part of the song that originally read, “Take your space and take your reasons,” was altered to “all your bulls***reasons.” Fans believe Urban directed these lyric changes at his ex-wife, Kidman.
The country singer has been linked to his much younger guitarist, Maggie Baugh. The affair rumors fueled more speculation when Urban changed the lyrics to the song “The Fighter.” Urban dedicated the song to his now ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, with the sweet lyrics, “When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter.”
However, during a concert in September, Urban tweaked the lyrics and dedicated them to Maggie Baugh. The new altered lyrics were, “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie, I’ll be your guitar player.”
Notably, Urban occasionally changes the lyrics of a song according to the person and occasion. He recorded the song “The Fighter” as a duet with Carrie Underwood. In fact, when Urban tweaked the song to her name during the duo’s performance at the 2017 CMT Music Awards, he altered the lyrics to “I’ll be your Carrie.”
