Ariana Grande is said to be “operating in a different world” from Ethan Slater as rumors of a split continue mounting.
The pop star, 32, and the SpongeBob SquarePants actor, 33, who went public with their romance in July 2023, were recently due to attend the Ragtime opening at Lincoln Center in New York in what would have been their red-carpet debut as a couple.
However, they mysteriously pulled out at the last minute – and according to sources, there was no explanation for their absence.
A source told Rob Shuter, “They were confirmed. Their names were printed on the guest list. Seats were held.
“Then, hours before curtain, word came – they weren’t coming. No explanation. Just silence.”
They claimed, “She’s global – he’s feeling small.” The pair have continued supporting each other by liking social media posts and making comments during interviews. Just days ago, sources claimed that Ariana and Ethan had discussed getting married but this no longer appears to be an option.
A source told the Daily Mail, “At one time, they discussed marriage, but that is no longer on the table. They fell head over heels in love when they first hooked up. But those days are over.”
Another insider said the couple have been “on and off for most of this year” and that Ethan chose not to attend the MTV VMAs with Ariana because they’d had an argument just days before.
“But they made up soon after. They’ve both been running hot and cold with each other,” the source added. Ethan later congratulated Ariana on her Moon Person wins in an Instagram Story and spoke briefly about her while attending the Gen V Season 2 premiere in September.
An insider claimed their relationship is “more than a little toxic” but they are “keeping it together for now.”
However, they claimed the pair might break up after Wicked: For Good opens, as the relationship is “unhealthy for both.”
In February, Ariana appeared to hit back at rumors of a split as she shared a snap of her and Ethan where they appeared as loved up as ever.
In the image, the pair posed next to each other, and appeared to have their arms around one another as they kept their faces pressed close together.
While Ariana’s eyes were closed as she smiled, Ethan looked directly at the camera while also keeping a smile on his face.
