A lineup of Detroit icons and eight new floats are expected at the 99th annual America’s Thanksgiving Parade down Woodward Avenue in Detroit on the morning of Nov. 27.
Grand Marshals Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and former 28-year WDIV-TV anchor Devin Scillian will lead the floats, character balloons and bands through this year’s parade, according to a news release from The Parade Co. on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Celebrity guests and tributes
Detroit Lions legend Dexter Bussey, Emmy Award-winning, Detroit-native actor Sam Richardson, and famous actor Christopher McDonald, who plays Shooter McGavin in “Happy Gilmore,” are among the celebrities expected.
Detroit Tiger and broadcaster Kirk Gibson will get a Big Head by The Big Head Corps, “a dynamic group that helps support The Parade Company’s mission by raising funds towards the preservation and restoration of the world’s largest papier-mache head collection,” according to The Parade Co.
Miss Michigan 2025 Hannah Palmer, a third grade public school teacher in Ann Arbor, is also among the parade guests.
What to expect
This year’s parade is presented by Gardner White with the theme “Thanksgiving is Better in Detroit!”
The colorful walk down Woodward Avenue will open with a performance of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from “The Lion King.”
Detroit mascots Roary for the Lions, Paws for the Tigers, Hooper for the Pistons and Nitro for the Pistons G League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise, will make their way through the parade.
Santa Claus, SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star are also expected at the parade.
The parade follows the Strategic Staffing Solutions Turkey Trot 5K, 10K and 1-mile events, where participants dress up in holiday costumes and run through the city.
The eight new floats designed and built by The Parade Co., a nonprofit governed by the Michigan Thanksgiving Parade Foundation, will be announced and unveiled in the coming weeks, according to The Parade Co.
How to watch
The parade will air live on WDIV-TV (Local 4) from 10 a.m. to noon, with pre-parade coverage beginning at 6 a.m. More than 185 television markets across the country will get a one-hour syndicated national broadcast from 10-11 a.m., according to The Parade Co.
According to The Parade Co., 760 WJR-AM and Audacy WOMC 104.3-FM also will broadcast parade shows.
