The songs of Bruce Springsteen were the soundtrack to a generation that grew up in the 1970s and ’80s, and the new biopic “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” – with Jeremy Allen White as the Boss – returns to the rock icon’s formative years and the crafting of a seminal album. Put that on your watch list as well as the Netflix political thriller “A House of Dynamite,” about government officials scrambling to deal with an incoming nuclear missile. Plus, Halloween is in a week and we’ve got some recs to prep, scary movie style.

See Jeremy Allen White channel Bruce Springsteen for ‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’

Get ready, fans of Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 album “Nebraska.” The biopic “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” is about the musician dealing with his mental health and childhood traumas through the bedroom recordings that became that thoughtful collection. White makes a pretty convincing Boss in a solid drama that leans more into the singer’s tortured soul than his rock icon swagger. (Peep my ★★★ review.)
Jeremy Strong, who plays Springsteen’s manager and close pal Jon Landau, is also quite good. My colleague Patrick Ryan traveled to the Boss’ old haunt in Asbury Park, The Stone Pony, to talk with both Jeremys in a must-read interview. Strong says he’s admired his costar “for a long time,” while White recounts Springsteen explaining why he let them make a movie about that emotional time in his career: “He said, ‘I just felt I was an observer of my own life. I didn’t feel present at all and it was one of the scariest moments of my life.’ ”
Stream Kathryn Bigelow’s unsettling Netflix thriller ‘A House of Dynamite’
The president (Idris Elba) is under fire to figure out how to respond when a nuclear missile is launched at America in the thriller “A House of Dynamite.”
“There is no good decision that involves nuclear weapons,” says Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow. She puts that to the test with her new Netflix thriller “A House of Dynamite,” which imagines a situation where government officials have 18 minutes to react and respond with a missile of mass destruction headed our way. Patrick talked with Bigelow about how she reached out to current and former security officials to authentically depict a chilling scenario. “It’s unnerving, the degree of chaos, confusion and helplessness, especially in a situation that is so global,” Bigelow says. “The intensity of the consequences is almost beyond our ability to comprehend.”
The movie is certainly intense and thought-provoking as it follows the perspectives of various personalities played by an all-star cast. It’s got some storytelling issues but, man, Idris Elba makes a darn good president. (Peep my ★★★ review.) “Dynamite” is also among several new releases on your favorite streaming services this week, including “Weapons” and a modern take on “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.”
Get ready for Halloween with horror movies old and new

Getting your Halloween costume in order? Bought the candy yet? Everybody’s in spooky season mode, so what better way to get in the mood than by watching some horror flicks. There’s a bunch new to theaters and streaming services that will do you right, such as “Black Phone 2” and “Queens of the Dead.”
Don’t stop there, though. If you want to go classic, here are 25 movies you should watch before you die.
