“I was bummed,” cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin said during the October 17 episode of the Behind the Table podcast. “But to be honest, with how heavy some of the topics are, you don’t want to be, like, dressed as a grape and talking about what’s happening in our news cycle.”

The View’s executive producer Brian Teta agreed with Griffin, 36, who chimed in and said, “Exactly. Last year, people complained a lot, but a lot of people watched. So hopefully, we’ll keep it going that way.”

While Teta admitted that the news was “going to be hard for people to hear,” he assured fans that they’ll still be celebrating in one way or another.

“We are gonna have fun stuff for Halloween, like we did last year,” Teta explained. “We’ll have ‘Hot Topics,’ we’ll have kids costumes, which everyone loves.”

He also promised that there would be a “little surprise at the top” of Friday’s episode.

The View hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin and Griffin also opted out of dressing up in costumes in 2024.

They previously revealed that if they wore costumes they would have had to record the show beforehand — and with the presidential election happening at the time, they felt they needed to keep the show live in order to update the audience on pertinent information.
