Prince and Princess of Wales win privacy case

The Prince and Princess of Wales have won a privacy case against
French magazine, Paris Match.

William and Kate had complained after paparazzi photos of them
and their three children on holiday in April were published by the
magazine.

The case came to light after Paris Match published a notice
acknowledging the breach of privacy in its magazine. It has also
paid the legal costs of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

It’s understood that William and Kate didn’t ask for
compensation but insisted on the publication of the judicial
notification instead.

The images were taken as the couple holidayed in the Alps in
April with George, Charlotte and Louis.

A French court told Paris Match to publish the notification
after finding that the images infringed the privacy of the
family.

In a statement, Kensington Palace said ”Their Royal
Highnesses, he Prince and Princess of Wales, have been successful
in legal proceedings brought in France against the owner of Paris
Match, which published a grossly intrusive article and long-lens
paparazzi photographs of their private family holiday in the Alps
in April.”

The statement continued ”the ruling affirms that,
notwithstanding their public duties as members of the royal family,
their royal highnesses and their children are entitled to respect
for their private lives and family time, without unlawful
interference and intrusion.”

It concluded ‘‘The Prince and Princess of Wales are
committed to protecting their private family time and ensuring that
their children can grow up without undue scrutiny and interference.
They will not hesitate to take such action as is necessary to
enforce those boundaries.”

It’s understood that legal action began soon after the images
were published in April and the case continued through the summer
in a number of hearings before a final order was made earlier this
month.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have previously successfully
sued another French magazine, Closer, which published images of
Kate sunbathing in 2012.
