Prince Harry delivered a startling revelation about his intentions regarding US citizenship. The Duke of Sussex, 41, has resided in America for the past five years following his relocation from Britain in 2020.
The transition, which witnessed him and his American spouse Meghan Markle purchasing an expansive property in Montecito, occurred after Harry chose to withdraw from Royal responsibilities. While the prince has consistently maintained his affection and devotion for his homeland, he has also been candid about his “gratitude” for his American lifestyle.
This has prompted speculation about whether he will pursue American citizenship.
The prince has now appeared to clarify this possibility during an unexpected guest spot on the Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know podcast.
When questioned by host Hasan Minhaj about pursuing US citizenship, Harry delivered a startling six-word response: “There are no plans to be.”, reports the Express.
Elaborating on his answer, Harry stated: “Am I going to become a US citizen? There are no plans to be, at this point.”
This follows the prince’s earlier indication that he might contemplate American citizenship.
During a conversation last year with Good Morning America’s Will Reeve at the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025’s One Year to Go celebration in Canada, the duke described his American experience as “amazing”.
He also said: “I’m here standing next to this with these guys (Invictus competitors) and the American citizenship is a thought that has crossed my mind but certainly not something that is a high priority for me right now.”
It is understood the prince plans to remain in America rather than return to Britain permanently at any point.
This comes despite the fact he has repeatedly stated that he “loves” his home country.
