Anne Hathaway appeared on The View on July 20 to promote her new film, The Odyssey.
The View host Whoopi Goldberg left Anne in tears after she commended her performance as Penelope in the movie.
Anne teased she would still be emotional even if she wasn’t pregnant with her third child.
It’s not often Whoopi Goldberg makes people cry on TV—but she recently did just that for the sweetest reason.
On the July 20 taping of The View, fans watched as she and her co-hosts welcomed The Odyssey stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and director Christopher Nolan. The group was there to promote the epic drama, which debuted in theaters on July 17. Whoopi took a moment to praise Anne in a way no one saw coming.
“Anne Hathaway, it’s been wonderful watching you,” Whoopi stated in a clip posted on Instagram. “It’s been wonderful watching you grow up. And you have just blossomed [and] turned into this fabulous actress, girl!”
Upon hearing Whoopi’s praise, Anne, who’s currently pregnant with her third child with husband Adam Shulman, couldn’t hold back her tears.
“No, don’t,” she replied emotionally. “I would be crying if I wasn’t pregnant right now! I don’t know what to say.”
“You need to know!” Whoopi answered back. “It’s something you need to know and remember.”
When fans saw Whoopi and Anne’s tearful interaction, they shared their reactions on social media.
