Last month, Kentucky Sound Stage, 5333 Frederica St., brought Dustin Matteson’s Pop Up Comedy Club to town to see if comedy could attract an audience.
Matteson said it definitely did.
And shows are planned on the second Friday of each month at the former movie theater, he said.
The next show will be at 8 p.m. on Nov. 14.
It features regional comics Chuck Litchfield, Dustin Stephens, Ryan Likens and Ken Ray.
Andy Imlay of Boonville is the featured act.
His Facebook page says he has been turning obstacles into punchlines for more than a decade.
Imlay, who was born in Owensboro, has cerebral palsy.
He calls himself the “Comedian on Wheels” and the “Wheelchair Warrior.”
“He’s a really good comedian,” Matteson said.
Imlay has opened for such acts as Cledus T. Judd, and America’s Got Talent winner Richard Goodall.
He also performed at OMG!con in Owensboro in June.
Tickets are $15.
Matteson said, “We had a great turnout for the first show. The performers were really good. People really enjoyed it. We got good feedback from the crowd.”
Last month’s show was rated G.
“This one will be PG,” Matteson said. “That’s where we’ll stay. We’re not going to the other end of the spectrum.”
He said the owners of the Kentucky Sound Stage, which is used to film movies and television shows, are booking live entertainment because they “want to show that it’s an event space, not just for filming for TV and movies.”
The Sound Stage has two theaters for live shows, Matteson said.
