CHICAGO — For the past few years, Chicago radio station WLIT (93.9 LITE FM) has made its annual switch to its all-holiday-music format on Nov. 1, while most listeners were still enjoying their Halloween candy.
But Christmas fans who turned on the station Saturday, which was Nov. 1, expecting to hear “Jingle Bell Rock” and other holiday classics were disappointed.
This year, in honor of the station’s 24th anniversary of its two months of Christmas music, WLIT held a contest so that listeners could predict when the music would take hold.
Monday morning, WLIT host Melissa Forman made the announcement: The station will switch over to its all-holiday format 3 p.m. Tuesday, tied to a chance for listeners to win a trip to Las Vegas to see Mariah Carey. As soon as you hear her prevalent “All I Want For Christmas Is You” song after the format change, you can call in for your chance to win the Vegas trip.
Now the question remains: What will be the first song to kick off WLIT’s holiday season this year? That incessant Mariah Carey song? Michael Bublé’s “Holly Jolly Christmas”? The classic “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams? Those are a few of the favorites WLIT plays (much) more than others during the holiday season.
Holiday music fans will just have to tune in to WLIT at 3 p.m. Tuesday to find out. Fans can listen on the radio, online or on the iHeartRadio app.
