Background: Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic Disney film, this enchanting love story transports audiences to a magical kingdom beneath the sea – where beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to live in the world above. With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with beloved songs including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl,” and “Part of Your World.”
What they’re saying: “Preparing for The Little Mermaid has been countless hours of rehearsing after school and on weekends to bring the show to life. Our cast has worked since the day they got their scripts on memorizing their lines and learning choreography to look great on stage,” said senior Breanna Hoier, stage manager. “We look forward to putting on a show that so many people have poured hard work into, including our cast, crew, directors, the pit, and adult volunteers.
Take-home message: “Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ is a timeless tale about the journey of fitting into the world,” said director Carissa VanDalen. “Every generation seems to relate to Ariel saying, ‘He doesn’t understand me. He doesn’t even try,’ while on the other side, a parent struggles to contain the energy and stubbornness of their child and still helps them find their voice. We see the merging of two worlds, and the quirky characters along the way who do their best to help us along in life. We are very thankful for the opportunity to share this show with our community.”
