Rock Entertainment Group (REG) is “still deep in the data-gathering phase” for the Cleveland WNBA team’s name, pulling “opinions from surveys and focus groups,” according to Joe Scalzo of CRAIN’S CLEVELAND BUSINESS. More than 7,000 fans who “plunked down a season-ticket deposit” for the team, which begins play in 2028, received a survey that listed “a handful of options currently under consideration,” including names that keep surfacing online: “Founders, Crown, Rockers, Novas, Riveters, and Sirens.” Those options are “not necessarily” the finalists. They “may be in the mix,” and Rockers, the name of the original Cleveland WNBA team, “definitely is.” Cleveland’s jersey design is “due to Nike within the next year,” and the franchise “still has to line up two corporate patch partners to include in the final look, so the clock is ticking.” REG and Cavaliers CEO Nic Barlage said that the organization has “sent three potential names to the league office for preliminary approval and expects to make a final decision in January,” though the winner will not “necessarily be one of those three” (CRAIN’S CLEVELAND BUSINESS, 10/31).
