During his Oct. 3 appearance on actor Eugene Levy’s Apple TV+ series The Reluctant Traveler, Prince William hinted at his plans to shake things up when he becomes king. “I think it’s safe to say change is on my agenda,” he said, adding that he’s “excited” about the idea of making “changes that I think need to happen.”
Though he has yet to succeed his 77-year-old father, King Charles, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, William is already making good on his promise to disrupt the status quo. On Oct. 27, British journalist Emily Maitlis (who quizzed then-Prince Andrew, 65, in his famously disastrous BBC Newsnight interview about his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2019) claimed on her podcast The News Agents that William, 43, had met with his cousins Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35, and threatened to remove their titles if they didn’t convince their disgraced dad to move out of Royal Lodge, the $38 million home he shares with their mother, Sarah Ferguson, per Daily Mail.

While Kensington Palace has insisted no meeting between the cousins took place, a source tells Star William is making it abundantly clear he wants Andrew and Sarah exiled from the royal family. “He’s been putting his foot down in an extremely forthright manner,” says the source. “William finds his uncle repulsive in almost every sense, and has made no secret in urging the king and other higher-ups inside the Firm to act decisively.”

That’s just what Charles did, announcing on Oct. 30 that the palace was initiating “a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew.” Now he will be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. “It’s an agenda William’s been pushing for many years and the latest sordid disclosures have made it a priority,” says the source. Andrew’s involvement with Epstein is back in the news amid the release of Virginia Giuffre’s recently published memoir (Giuffre, who committed suicide earlier this year, accused Andrew of having sex with her when she was underage; he denied the allegations and they reached a financial settlement in 2022).
In September, Sarah was dropped by various charities after a 2011 email from her to Epstein was unearthed in which she called him a “supreme friend.” Amid the continuing scandal, the 66-year-old was reportedly fired from her gigs at ITV’s This Morning and Loose Women. Says the source, “Sarah is very freaked out about money and how she’ll afford her extravagant lifestyle.”
Not Backing Down
William’s mission puts Eugenie and Beatrice in an awkward spot. “They love their parents,” says the source, “but this has had a major impact on their own standing in the royal family.”
Andrew and Sarah aren’t taking things well either. “Andrew is accusing William of stabbing him in the back to further his own power-hungry agenda,” says the source. William scored another win when the palace statement revealed that “formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease, and [Andrew] will move to alternative private accomodation.”

That doesn’t bode well for the ex-prince’s reported plan to move into Frogmore Cottage (the five-bedroom former home of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle) and move Sarah into Adelaide Cottage, which William and Princess Kate are soon vacating. The scathing statement from Charles and wife Queen Camilla continued, “These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that [Andrew] continues to deny the allegations against him. Their majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
William essentially wants his aunt and uncle out of the monarchy. “He doesn’t want them invited to family events or even to be allowed to tag along at church,” says the source. (The Sunday Times reported William won’t allow Andrew to attend his future coronation.) “When he’s king, he’ll have no tolerance for Andrew,” says the source. “He’ll do everything in his power to punish his uncle. He believes he’s avoided justice for far too long.”
