Predator: Badlands has received widespread acclaim, with ComingSoon.net lauding it as the “best Predator movie yet”. The film, which lands in UK cinemas on Friday, 7 November, is the ninth entry in the franchise.
Predator (1987), Predator 2 (1990), Predators (2010), The Predator (2018), Prey (2022), Predator: Killer of Killers (2025), and spin-off films, Alien vs Predator (2004), and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007) are among its predecessors.
Starring Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi and Elle Fanning, Predator: Badlands takes place on a remote and deadly planet.
After Dek (Schuster-Koloamatangi), a smaller-sized Yautja, is cast aside by his clan, he becomes determined to prove his worth as a hunter, heading to Genna in pursuit of the lethal apex predator. During his journey, Dek also encounters Thia (Fanning), a Weyland-Yutani Corporation synthetic, leading to a surprising alliance.
Currently, the movie holds a Certified Fresh score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the third-highest-rated Predator movie on the platform. In first place is Predator: Killer of Killers with a score of 95%, and in second is Prey with 94%.

Boasting a barrage of glowing reviews, critics have heaped praise on director Dan Trachtenberg. “The strongest film with ‘Predator’ in the title since the 1987 original (Trachtenberg’s earlier ‘Prey’ notwithstanding),” raved Variety.
“It cleverly pulls at the supposed laws of the series in a way that makes it more interesting without diluting the fearsome nature of the title character. Trachtenberg is making the franchise richer with every instalment,” agreed Time Out.
Meanwhile, The Wrap wrote: “Like ‘Prey’ before it, ‘Predator: Badlands’ is mainstream sci-fi filmmaking at its zenith, and it’s proof – in an era where proof is hard to find – that big, expensive action spectacles don’t have to suck.”

Speaking with the PA news agency, Fanning revealed what drew her to the project. “I loved what Dan [Trachtenberg] did with Prey, I thought it was such a brilliant movie,” she said.
“This story felt so fresh and new; I’d never seen anything like it on screen before. There were even touches of Star Wars at times, Chewbacca and C-3PO were an inspiration for our backpack situation, and I just loved Dan’s vision. And if it’s a good director and a good story, that’s all you need. It doesn’t really matter what lane it’s in, I’m game.”
Predator: Badlands will premiere in UK cinemas on Friday, 7 November.
