Kidz Bop covered one of Sabrina Carpenter’s most suggestive songs, “Tears,” drawing the same reaction from a slew of social media users.
“New week. New song. Listen to #Tears on @Amazon Music,” the official Kidz Bop TikTok account posted on Monday, November 3.
In the accompanying video, the children’s music group sang, “I get well at the thought of you / Being a responsible guy / Treating me like you’re supposed to do.”
While not included in the clip, the Kidz Bop chorus continues, “Tears fall from my eyes.”
Carpenter’s original lyrics are much more mature as she sings, “I get wet at the thought of you / Being a responsible guy / Treating me like you’re supposed to do / Tears run down my thighs.”
TikTok users took to the comments section of Kidz Bop’s Monday post to share their reactions to the cover.
“Unrelease it,” one person wrote, while another replied, “This shouldn’t be legal.”
Many fans expressed a similar sentiment, emphasizing their displeasure with the cover by referencing the song’s lyrics.
“Tears run down my ears,” a TikTok user commented as another agreed, “This is sending me to tears.”
The comments section was also filled with reaction memes of Carpenter, 26.
“SERIOUSLY?” one fan wrote alongside a photo of Carpenter with a disgusted expression.
“Please please please never release a Sabrina song again,” another TikTok user pleaded with a picture of Carpenter looking confused. (Kidz Bop previously covered her hits “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” in 2024.)
“Tears” is the second single from Carpenter’s most recent album, Man’s Best Friend, which she released in August. Colman Domingo starred alongside the pop star in the Rocky Horror Picture Show inspired music video.
Since skyrocketing to superstardom, Carpenter has come under fire for her risqué lyrics. She addressed the controversy surrounding her music ahead of her latest record’s drop.
“The album is not for any pearl clutchers,” she said on CBS Mornings in August. “But I also think that even pearl clutchers can listen to an album like that in their own solitude and find something that makes them smirk and chuckle to themselves.”
While Carpenter acknowledged that “sometimes people hear the lyrics that are really bold or they go, ‘I don’t want to sing this in front of other people’” because “it’s also too TMI,” she believes her music allows fans to let go of their inhibitions.
“I think about being at a concert with, you know, however many young women I see in the front row that are screaming at the top of their lungs with their best friends, and you can go like, ‘Oh, we can all sigh [in] relief like, ‘This is just fun,’” she noted. “And that’s all it has to be.”
