Carol Burnettis proud to be a one-hit wonder seven times over.
The 92-year-old comedy legend, who co-stars in Apple TV+’s Palm Royale, stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about Season 2 of the critically acclaimed hit show, which also stars SNL alum Kristin Wiig. The upcoming season of Palm Royale is scheduled for release on November 12, but Kimmel was more interested in getting to the bottom of cheating allegations that have dogged The Carol Burnett Show icon.
During Kimmel’s conversation with the ageless Burnett, the late-night talk show host brought up accusations that Burnett cheats at Wordle. Burnett, who is in a Wordle group with actresses Julia Louis-Dreyfus,Charlize Theron, and Allison Janney, is known to get the daily word game correct in one or two tries. In fact, the comedienne revealed she’s solved Wordle on the first try seven different times, causing her famous Wordler group members to wage “accusations” of cheating.
Burnett was a good sport as Kimmel playfully grilled her about the “serious” cheating allegations, which stemmed from a New Yorker profile published in October in which Burnett’s stats on solving Wordle on the first guess were cheekily called into question. On his show, Kimmel later asked Dreyfus, Theron, and Janney about Burnett’s potential Wordle sidestep. All three vehemently defended their position that Burnett’s Wordle success is likely due to cheating.
The still whip-smart Burnett could not only name each of the seven words she’s correctly Wordled in one try, she defended her integrity, proclaiming, “There’s no way you can cheat in Wordle!”
Burnett then explained that it takes intelligence to get the answer to the New York Times’ daily word game in two tries, but getting it in one is “an accident.”
Fans delighted in seeing the 92-years-young Burnett effortlessly play along with Kimmel.
“What a great interview,” commented one fan. “Good for the soul.”
Another fan called Burnett “a national treasure.”
“Tomorrow’s word should be Carol,” added another clever fan.
