Prince Harry and Meghan Markle issued a major announcement on Saturday evening, minutes after the Royal Family made a poignant appearance in London to mark Remembrance Week. The King and Queen led the Royal Family at the annual Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall in London, dedicated to all those who have served and given their lives in the service of their country.
Charles and Camilla were joined by other members of the Firm, including the Princess of Wales, Prince George, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. The King was snapped arriving at the Royal Albert Hall in London, where the rest of the royals waited shortly after 7pm on Saturday evening.
At 7.12pm, a new announcement by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was published on their Archewell website.
Harry and Meghan issued a statement to announce that they are “bolstering” their efforts to provide meals and food relief to those in need in their local communities.
A statement by Archewell read: “In a moment when families across the United States are struggling to put food on the table, Prince Harry and Meghan have been supporting local communities affected by the growing hunger crisis and assisting local partners providing meals and relief to those most in need.
“Across the country, food banks and community organisations are working tirelessly to fill the gap and stepping up to meet the need. At The Archewell Foundation, we believe that food is more than sustenance—it is dignity, stability, and care for one another.”
Harry and Meghan’s charitable foundation said its “emergency donations” to local partners offering immediate relief to those in need, including the Food Bank of Santa Barbara County, Our Big Kitchen LA and Project Angel Food.
The couple also urged people to donate whenever and wherever they can as “caring for one another is both a collective act and a personal choice”.
The statement said: “Whether through time, resources, or simple gestures of compassion, each of us can help ensure that no one faces hunger alone.”
They also provided tips for advice on how to help, including “sharing what you can, gathering others to help, showing up for seniors and supporting local and national organisations.”
The Archewell foundation statement concluded: “Moments like this remind us of the power and resilience of communities—and the responsibility we all share to care for one another. The Archewell Foundation will continue to support organisations that meet essential human needs with compassion, especially in times of fragility and uncertainty.
