Princess Kate sent a covert message to Prince William through a bold gesture at Remembrance Sunday, an expert suggests.

Despite both William and Kate attending the Remembrance ceremony at the Cenotaph on November 9, they occupied different positions.

William, who laid a wreath following his father, King Charles, stood on the parade ground with other royals on Remembrance Sunday, while Kate observed from the balcony of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office with Queen Camilla.

The two women, both clad in black, were seen observing the solemn service before joining in to sing the national anthem together.

Body language expert Judi James told the Mirror, “Kate almost took the visual role of the more dominant royal here, standing tall, straight and virtually immobile to the front, wearing a solemn expression while Camilla appeared happier to stand slightly behind her to her right, glancing at her order of service and looking around.

“Camilla chatted to Kate at some point, and Kate did respond with a warm, receptive smile but her preferred mood seemed to be one of respectful reflection.”

As the service concluded and the royals retreated into the building, applause echoed for the King, with Kate and Camilla briefly seen smiling proudly.

Judi added, “Despite her very elegant look, though, Kate did seem unable to keep herself from throwing a checking glance down at her husband as he walked out behind his father.”

“Her expression softened slightly with what looked like pride but when William walked back into the building after the service, she did relax enough to flash a specifically-aimed, dimpled smile of approval and support.”

Following today’s ceremony, approximately 10,000 armed forces veterans participated in the Royal British Legion’s march-past through London after the service, including roughly 20 Second World War veterans, 80 years after the conflict’s conclusion.

Spectators packed along Whitehall’s streets cheered the marchers, who were accompanied by music performed by the Massed Bands of the Household Division and the combined bands of the Royal Marines and Royal Air Force, with numerous participants displaying their medals.

Several marchers, including multiple Chelsea Pensioners, were transported in wheelchairs while others rode on mobility scooters.

Three D-Day veterans were among the Second World War personnel present at Whitehall.

Henry Rice, a former signalman who landed off Juno Beach five days after D-Day, and Mervyn Kersh who reached Normandy aged 19, three days after the D-Day invasion began, were among those attending.

Sid Machin, one of six 101 year olds registered to march, was also in attendance.

He remains one of the final surviving “Chindit” soldiers from the Second World War’s Burma campaign.
