With their transcendent, deconstructed caroline 2, the British post-rock collective caroline delivered one of this year’s best albums. Today, they’re giving us more of it. The eight-piece band has surprise-released a new deluxe edition of the album, with a full disc of bonus tracks and demos.
From what I’m hearing on first listen, both the new songs and the demos are in effect alternate versions of material from the main album, fragmented and rearranged in the way caroline do so well. Listening through the second disc is kind of like remembering caroline 2 in a dream. For instance, “if you let them i’ll let them” is a stripped-down remake of album opener “Total Euphoria,” and although I still prefer the mind-blowing original, I don’t at all mind letting this reimagined take on the song drift into my subconscious.
Five bonus tracks from the deluxe will be available on a special 12″ available at Rough Trade’s shops in New York, Berlin, and the UK. Additionally, caroline have announced a trio of US shows this coming May in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York. Check out their tour dates below along with the deluxe album.
