‘Rose and the Rime’

The Hendrix Players continue their run of “Rose and the Rime” by Nathan Allen, Chris Matthews and Jake Minton, 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday in Cabe Theatre at Hendrix College, 1600 Washington Ave., Conway. The play follows a young girl who embarks on a journey to save her town from perpetual winter. Director John J. Yorke, on the faculty at the University of Memphis, is this year’s Hendrix-Murphy Visiting Theatre Director at the college. Oz double feature

Ahead of next week’s release of “Wicked: For Good,” the Central Arkansas Library System is taking two trips down the Yellow Brick Road on Saturday at the Ron Robinson Theater, 120 River Market Ave., Little Rock, screening a remastered version of the 1939 “The Wizard of Oz” at 12:30 p.m. (doors open at 11:30) and “The Wiz,” the 1978 film that put the story in an urban setting, starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Richard Pryor, at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6).

‘Kuimeaux’s World’

“Kuimeaux’s World,” drawings and paintings by late Little Rock native Dwight “Kuimeaux” Drennan (1950-2022), go on display during a 2nd Friday Art Night reception, 5-8 p.m. Friday in the Museum Center and on the historic grounds of Little Rock’s Historic Arkansas Museum, 200 E. Third St. There will be refreshments as well as music by Brian Nahlen. The exhibit, on display in the Worthen Arkansas Made Gallery, will remain up through spring 2027. Also for 2nd Friday Art Night, 5-8 p.m. Friday, the Old State House Museum, 300 W. Markham St., Little Rock, commemorates Arkansans’ efforts in World War I with its second annual Veterans Day event. (When the museum was first established, it was called the Arkansas War Memorial to honor World War I veterans.) Educators will discuss the different roles men and women played in the war, from the front lines to the home front, covering the activities of the U.S. Infantry and Cavalry, the American Legion, World War I field medicine, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and early 20th-century health and hygiene. The event will also feature hands-on activities, old-fashioned doughnuts, a French 75 cocktail and period music provided by the Michael Carenbauer Quartet. Admission is free. Call (501) 324-9685.

Quilters Guild exhibition

The 2025 Arkansas Quilters Guild Exhibition is on display through Dec. 14 at the Central Arkansas Library System’s Adolphine Fletcher Terry Library, 2015 Napa Valley Drive, Little Rock. Members of the guild submitted the 23 quilts; visitors can vote for their favorites through Dec. 7 with the winners announced Dec. 8. Admission is free. A-State exhibitions

Two exhibitions — “hikâye | story” and the annual “Inspired” exhibition — open Thursday with a 5-7 p.m. reception at the Bradbury Art Museum in Arkansas State University’s Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive, Jonesboro.

Miniatures by Lydia Dildilian, assistant professor of painting at A-State, informed by her recent travel to Turkey, make up “hikâye | story.” Dildilian will also lead a miniature watercolor painting workshop, 2-5 p.m. on Saturday at the museum.

The “Inspired” program invites area high school students to create artwork in response to what they see during a fall tour of the museum. Students from 14 area schools, taking inspiration from three current exhibitions — “stil/leven, still/even,” “Taking Up Space” and “Echoes of Silent Migration” (the latter containing interdisciplinary works by Faal) — turned in more than 160 submissions, work and artist statements, virtually, for consideration by juror Somayeh Faal, who will give an artist talk at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Fowler Center Grand Hall. Faal also selected a number of award winners, to be announced after the exhibition opens.

Participating schools include Academies at Jonesboro High School, Bay High School, Blytheville High School, Brookland High School, Corning High School, Consolidated Youth Services, Corning High School, Harrisburg High School, Highland High School, Marked Tree High School, Paragould High School, Ridgefield Christian School, Trumann High School, Valley View High School and Walnut Ridge High School.

Artistic sisters

“For the JOY of Living,” hand-beaded wire and acrylic works, immersive installations and interactive pieces by Cherie Bright, and “Naturally Abstract,” abstract works focusing on the microscopic wonders of nature by her sister, Cindy Magee, are on display through Dec. 16 at the South Arkansas Arts Center, 110 E. Czech out those puppets

Czech Republic puppet troupe Alfa Theatre performs “Mr. Kašpar and His Jolly Family” at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Martin Children’s Center at the Central Arkansas Library System Main Library, 100 Rock St., Little Rock. Following the 35-minute performance is a 30-minute workshop in which children can step backstage, handle the puppets, experiment with traditional puppeteering instruments and even try a short scene under the guidance of the actors. Sustainability Fair

The Central Arkansas Library System, the Green Corner Store and the City of Little Rock Office of Sustainability host the REIMAGINE! Sustainability Fair, noon-4 p.m. Saturday at the CALS Main Library, 100 Rock St., Little Rock. The fair promotes the concept of reusing rather than recycling as a “more sustainable solution that everyone can be a part of,” according to a news release.

It features a screening of “REUSE! Because You Can’t Recycle The Planet” at 1:30 p.m., which follows “reuse edutainer” Alex Eaves’ cross-country journey across the 48 contiguous U.S. states in which he “finds endless reuse solutions for our waste problem that are not only sustainable, but many of which are easy and fun.” Eaves will take part in a question-and-answer discussion.

The fair will also focus on the CALS Repair Cafe, where experts help people fix broken items.
