Universal Pictures has released the official trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the highly anticipated follow-up to 2023’s blockbuster animated film The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The action-adventure sequel will be arriving in U.S. theaters on April 3, 2026.
New additions to the cast were revealed to be Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) and Benny Safdie (Happy Gilmore 2). Larson will be the voice of Rosalina, while Safdie will voice Bowser Jr.

What do we know about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is once again being directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!) from a screenplay written by Minions: The Rise of Gru scribe Matthew Fogel. It will be based on Nintendo’s 2007 video game Super Mario Galaxy. The movie will feature the voices of Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. At the moment, the studio hasn’t revealed any new cast members for the sequel. It is produced by Chris Meledandri for Illumination and game creator Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo.
The first installment also starred Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the adaptation still managed to become one of 2023’s biggest movie releases. During its theatrical run, the movie earned a worldwide gross of over $1.3 billion at the box office. It also currently holds a Popcornmeter rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is far different from its Tomatometer score of 59% based on 288 reviews.
