Acadiana Center for the Arts supporters and donors gathered at the home of Carolyn and Kip Schumacher for a special evening of music and conversation with Kat Higgins, a Canadian artist known for her vocal and song-writing talents.
Higgins entertained guests in a relaxed setting with music and storytelling, weaving many of her hits into the conversation. Attendees enjoyed the special preview on Nov. 5, the night before her sold out AcA concert.
Higgins is a native of Vancouver, Canada and grew up singing with her family band. Her love of songwriting got her noticed in Nashville, where she has written songs recorded by Kenny Chesney, Cody Johnson, Carrie Underwood, Carly Peirce and more. Some of her tunes were nominated for ACM song of the year, and “The Painter” won NSAI’s song of the year award in 2024.
Guests were delighted to learn she is married to Acadiana native Stevie Rees. Her uncle-in-law, Jimmy Rees, was in attendance to cheer her on, along with some of her other family members.
The Schumachers provided a beautiful setting for the preview event. And, based on her performance, it was easy to see why the Kat Higgins concert was completely sold out. Combine her award-winning songwriting talent with her band, and their harmonious voices, and you’ve got an evening full of music and magic.
If you have not had a chance to attend one of the AcA concerts, you should put that on your wish list. The organization has become one of the top promoters of music and arts in the Acadiana community.
