DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) – An up-and-coming music artist in the Wiregrass has released a new single, and that artist just so happens to be a member of our team here at WDHN!
Rodney Preston grew up in Webb, writing his first song at just 14-years-old, before going on to graduate from Rehobeth High School.
Preston grew up leading his church in worship music, but once he reached his 20’s, he decided to make his dreams in music a reality. He packed up his life in the Wiregrass and left for California where he would spend the next four or five years honing his skills as an artist.
Preston described his time in California as a rollercoaster of emotional highs and lows riddled with uncertainty, and mainly living in survival mode.
After a long road of finding himself as both a person and an artist, Preston moved back to the Wiregrass in 2012 where he would later become a husband, and father of three daughters.
“How can I expect my kids to chase their dreams if I never chase mine,” Preston says.
Now flash forward to 2025, on a quiet September night of swirling thoughts, Preston took out his guitar, and his debut song “Fences” was born.
The song draws on the emotions of sometimes being homesick and not truly understanding the purpose of life until you lean into the ones that love you the most.
You can find “Fences” by Rodney Preston on Spotify and Apple Music.
