A few items from the hit show “Dawson’s Creek” are being auctioned off and parting ways with the show’s star actor, James Van Der Beek.

Partnering with Propstore’s Auctions, Van Der Beek will auction off several items from the hit TV show to help fund his battle against cancer. The actor has been battling stage 3 colon cancer since August 2023.

In a statement on the auction website, Van Der Beek said he felt now was the ideal time to sell some of these items.

“I’ve been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them, and with all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented recently, it’s clear that the time is now,” the statement reads. “And while I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore’s auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years.”

On Dec. 6, the ‘90s star’s items will be a part of Propstore’s Winter Entertainment Memorabilia auction event. Below are the items being auctioned from Van Der Beek.

  • An “E.T.” plush toy and an “Indiana Jones” figurine served as decorations in the bedroom of Van Der Beek’s Dawson’s Creek character, Dawson Leery. The props are expected to sell for between £1,000 and £2,000 ($1,300 and $2,600).
  • White jumper costume from the “Dawson’s Creek” pilot episode, expected to sell for between £1,500 and £3,000 ($1,978 and $3,958).
  • Flannel shirt worn by Van Der Beek’s character throughout the series. Expected to sell for anywhere between £1,000 and £2,000 ($1,300 and $2,600).
  • The necklace that Van Der Beek’s character gave to Katie Holmes’ character, Joey Potter. Expected to sell for anywhere between £20,000 and £40,000 ($26,200 to $52,400).

Van Der Beek’s cancer diagnosis came quite unexpectedly for the actor. As he said previously, he had ignored the first symptom, a change in his bowel movements. According to previous reports, the actor said it “didn’t feel like a real symptom.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, a change in bowel movements, ongoing discomfort in the belly area, and weakness or feeling very tired are tell-tale signs of colon cancer.
