On November 15, Ryan Coogler spoke at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles event, where he was asked about the possibility of a third Black Panther film. According to the director, it’s not just a possibility: he’s working on it right now.
“Yeah, we’re working on it hard,” Coogler said. “It’s my next movie.”
The original Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman as the titular character, was released in 2018. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was released in 2022, following Boseman’s death in 2020.

What will Black Panther 3 be about?
The sequel followed the royal family of Wakanda as they processed the loss of T’Challa, who the MCU has declined to recast after losing Boseman. But Shuri, his younger sister, steps up to take on the role. There are few plot details available at the moment for the third chapter in the Black Panther story, but it will presumably continue to follow the changing regimes and circumstances for the character.
Who will star in Black Panther 3?
It’s expected that the regular cast from earlier movies will return, including Letitia Wright as Shuri, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, and perhaps appearances from Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda in flashback scenes.
In an interview on the Nightcap podcast in March 2025, Coogler talked about wanting to work with Denzel Washington if possible.
“I’m dying to work with Denzel and I’m hoping we can make that happen,” he said. “I got every intention of working with him in that movie and as long as he’s interested—it’s going to happen.”
When will Black Panther 3 be released?
There is no official date announced, but it is rumored that February 2028 is set for the projected release.
