Liev Schreiber has been admitted to a New York City hospital following concerns over a severe migraine.

The 58-year-old actor checked himself into the facility on Sunday after consulting with his physician about the debilitating pain, according to TMZ. Medical staff are conducting extensive tests to determine the cause, with the Scream star remaining overnight as he awaits results.

Sources indicate the Tony Award winner retains full mobility and cognitive function, able to both speak and move without difficulty. This incident follows a previous health scare in which Liev experienced transient global amnesia—a temporary but complete memory loss—triggered by a migraine.

That frightening episode occurred while he was performing in the Broadway production of Doubt: A Parable last year.

During an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, he described the terrifying experience. “The worst nightmare that an actor could possibly ever experience,” Liev began, reports the Mirror US.

“I was in my dressing room and I had a terrible headache. I thought it was maybe a fast food headache, but it felt a little stronger than that. I’m walking down the stairs and I’m thinking, ‘This is not normal. I don’t feel okay.'”

Liev recalled realizing “something was really wrong” when he couldn’t recall co-star Amy Ryan’s name backstage. Once he stepped onto the stage, his memory completely failed him.

“It all vanishes. The play is gone from my head … I know I’m in a play but I don’t know what play I’m in,” he explained. “My doctor, who’s a friend, shows up and he had a terrified expression. My wife shows up, she looks terrified. I think, ‘Okay, I’ve had a stroke. This is it,'” the actor recalled.

He also confessed feeling “embarrassed” and worried that audience members believed he was “lying and taking a night off from the theater.”

Following the incident, the nine-time Emmy nominated performer underwent multiple medical tests, including an MRI, which revealed no irregularities or brain bleeding that might account for the severe headache and memory loss.

Liev has been wed to his wife Taylor Neisen, whom he first met in 2017, since 2023. The pair have a daughter, Hazel Bee, born in August 2023.

He earned his MFA from the Yale School of Drama and secured his breakthrough film role in the 1996 horror thriller Scream alongside Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette.

In recent projects, he voiced Sam Fisher in the adult animated series Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, and portrayed Tag Winbury opposite Nicole Kidman in the Netflix miniseries The Perfect Couple. He also featured in Caught Stealing with Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz.
