A new stop-motion animated film called “Wildwood” was created and based in Oregon and is set to premiere in 2026.
The film was made at the Hillsboro-based production company Laika Studios. The studio is most known for creating other stop-motion films like “Coraline,” “ParaNorman,” “The Boxtrolls” and “Kubo and the Two Strings.”
“Wildwood” is directed by Laika CEO Travis Knight, son of Nike CEO Phil Knight.
Laika Studios recently released a first-look at the film, giving audiences a glimpse of the story, filming process and how the characters were created.
In the first-look, the studio showcased one of the film’s characters ― a hand-crafted giant golden eagle named The General that took hours to create and uses two puppets to bring to life.

What is ‘Wildwood’ about?
“Wildwood” was originally a children’s fantasy novel that was released in 2011. The book was written by Colin Meloy (of Portland band The Decemberists) and illustrated by his wife, Carson Ellis.
In the film, the plot centers around the Wildwood forest, set just beyond Portland and forbidden to outsiders.
The story then follows Prue McKeel, who, after her baby brother is kidnapped by crows, must enlist the help of her classmate, Curtis, and a giant golden eagle named The General, to venture into Wildwood and save her brother.
When will ‘Wildwood’ be released?
“Wildwood” does not have an exact release date but is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2026.
