KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There has been much anticipation for Salvador Perez to pass George Brett’s all-time Kansas City Royals home run record of 317.
Perhaps maybe a little too much anticipation for one fan.
Perez hit the record-tying home run on Wednesday afternoon against the San Francisco Giants into the fountains in the seventh inning.

This prompted one eager Royals fan to jump into the fountain to grab the historic ball and keep it for himself.

But shortly after, the fan was escorted out of the stadium and taken into custody by police. He has since been released.
Perez vouched for the fan trying to grab the ball, telling the police to let him go.
“Please, police, just take care of the job please and send him home. If was him, I’d maybe jump too and try to get that ball, so please. And thank you for the hard work in trying to get that ball,” Perez said.
The Kansas City Police Department said “an individual was cited and released for trespassing in the fountain.”
According to Royals website, fans who jump into the fountains are subject to immediate arrest. The rule reads as follows:

If at any time a guest enters a fountain, they will be immediately arrested, transported to the police station downtown and charged to the fullest extent of the law.
