Attention, racing fans! Calypso’s life-and-death race is officially gearing up again as Peacock’s Twisted Metal earns the greenlight for Season 3, but this time with a new showrunner behind the wheel.
David Reed (known for his work on The Boys and Supernatural) will take over as showrunner and executive producer following the exit of series co-creator Michael Jonathan Smith, who steered the series through its first two high-octane seasons.

When will Twisted Metal Season 3 premiere?
There is no official premiere date for Twisted Metal Season 3 yet, but it is not expected to be released until 2027 at the earliest. If filming begins in early 2026, a 2027 release is plausible.
What will Twisted Metal Season 3 be about?
The last season ended on a cliffhanger, with our trio of heroes — John Doe (Anthony Mackie), Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz), and Mayhem (Saylor Bell) — vowing to track down Calypso (Anthony Carrigan) after being falsely blamed for the massive explosion that killed much of the crowd at his tournament. Their hunt sets the stage for a chaotic, revenge-fueled road war in Season 3.

What is Twisted Metal about?
Based on the classic PlayStation franchise, the half-hour series began in 2023 with Mackie as John Doe, an amnesiac smart-mouthed driver who is asked to deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. He teams up with Quiet as the two deal with serial killers, cannibals, and assorted baddies while navigating the terrain.
Season 2 had the duo enter Calypso’s tournament against other “unique” racers for the big prize: a single wish of a heart’s desire.
How did Twisted Metal Season 2 end?
Buckle up. It is a lot to take in.
Stu (Mike Mitchell) wins the tournament, but has his wish turned on its ear. John Doe, Quiet, and Mayhem retreat to John’s family cabin in the woods, but are blamed for the explosion at Calypso’s tournament, and as a result, the creature known as Minion is sent to kill them.
But in a massive twist, Minion is actually the reanimated corpse of John Doe’s sister, Krista (Tiana Okoye, previously Dollface).

When TV Insider spoke with Okoye about the possibility of a Season 3, she envisioned her character essentially trading places from where she stood in Season 2. “My relationship with him was solely based on history and wanting to have him remember the past, remember our relationship together, remember our family, and get back to old times. Reconnect. That was her mission,” she noted. “I think for Season 3, as far as Minion and John are considered, I feel like the roles will be reversed. I feel like John is going to be the one who’s trying to get me to remember, trying to spark some sort of flame inside that ignites like that relationship again. So I feel like the rules will be reversed there.”
In the end, the trio escapes (barely), and John decides to hunt down Calypso. “We are going to need help,” remarks Quiet. “We don’t need help. We need cars,” says John, standing at a crossroads as Season 2 of Twisted Metal comes to an end.
Who stars in Twisted Metal Season 3?
As a lot of people perished in the tournament, we can assume the surviving racers (or those who didn’t die onscreen) will return. This will leave us with John Doe (Anthony Mackie), Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz), Mayhem (Saylor Bell), Stu (Mike Mitchell), Calypso (Anthony Carrigan), and Minion/Dollface (Tiana Okoye).
Sweet Tooth’s (voiced by Will Arnett and portrayed by Joe Seanoa) body was carried off-screen, so it is safe to say he will probably return as well.
Who is behind Twisted Metal Season 3?
Reed has strong geek cred and brings a bit of gravitas to the project. He currently serves as a writer and executive producer on The Boys and has penned for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, The Magicians, and Supernatural. He got his start on Battlestar Galactica.
Reed will executive produce alongside Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
