Eslabon Armado tour – Latin group talks Amor Nocturno shows

The award-winning regional Mexican group is heading back out on the road with the Amor Nocturno tour, their most ambitious outing yet.

Event ticket tips to avoid gate issues and delays

These tips will help you avoid hassles, headaches and being left outside the gates at live events.

Eslabon Armado isn’t just bringing new music to your headphones this summer. They’re here to put on un espectáculo.

The regional Mexican group, fresh off the release of their latest album “Nocturno,” is heading back out on the road for the Amor Nocturno tour, a 28-date outing that kicks off Friday, July 24, in Phoenix.

The North American trek, visiting cities including Denver, Las Vegas, Houston, New York City and Seattle through December, will take the band’s live show to a new level, an elevation that lead singer Pedro Tovar excitedly describes as a “sick production.”

“We’ve never really done that for our tours. We kind of just wing it,” Tovar tells USA TODAY. “But I feel like people want more of an experience when they go to a show now. It’s not how it was back then, like, ‘Oh, they’re playing at our local city. Let’s pull up.'”

While the “Ella Baila Sola” hitmakers are upping their showmanship, don’t expect too many onstage theatrics, such as choreographed sequences. “I still need to get a little skinnier for that,” Tovar says with a laugh, adding that the group will instead keep the energy going with dynamic musical arrangements in the vein of their previous Vibras De Noche Tour.

“We added drums, keys and electric guitar, and I feel like we made the songs a little more rock in a way, but still regional Mexican,” Tovar says. “We’re going to hopefully do the same but, you know, obviously with the new album.”

Eslabon Armado interview: Why trailblazing Latin group ‘never expected’ so much success

Eslabon Armado’s unique sound, love of collaborating

Eslabon Armado might be the future of regional Mexican music, but they’re not looking to the past.

The Latin Grammy-nominated band, beloved for its retro-modern blend of sierreño and corridos tumbados, is part of a new wave of Mexican music artists – among them Peso Pluma, Natanael Cano, Junior H, Fuerza Regida and Ivan Cornejo – redefining the classic genre with their bold musical fusions.

“I feel like everyone’s doing their own thing,” Tovar says. “Everyone has their own sound, and I feel like we 100 percent have our own sound. Honestly, it all comes down to what we listen to; I feel like we have inspiration from a lot of different artists outside of regional Mexican. I like melodies from rock, or from R&B or rap that stick on to me [and] that I could just put in.”

They also find inspiración in the music of their peers. The group teamed up with a string of regional Mexican acts on “Nocturno,” including Calle 24 and Gabito Ballesteros, and they reunited with their “Ella Baila Sola” collaborator Peso Pluma on “Amigos Con Derechos.”

“It’s always sick to collab. I feel like that’s something that fans want,” Tovar says. “For example, I’m a fan of Drake. And if he drops an album by himself, I’ll listen to it. But if he drops an album of collabs with 21 Savage, with Future, with all these different artists that I also like, I feel like you kind of get both worlds.”

Eslabon Armado sets sights on next career dream

Eslabon Armado has tasted the pinnacle of success, but there’s still a hunger for more.

With the new album and tour, the trailblazing group – the first regional Mexican act to nab a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 – is hoping to make a name for itself on the touring circuit and eventually graduate to arenas and “sold-out shows.”

“I feel like it will come. We just have to work a little harder,” Tovar says. “We have to constantly drop music because right now, we’re at a point where everyone’s dropping music quickly. And I feel like if you’re not up-to-date with the new sound, you’re just left behind.”

No matter what the future holds, it’s been a winding road for the band, which was formed nearly 10 years ago by Tovar and his brother, Brian Tovar, while they were still in high school. Their first album was recorded in a garage.

In the decade since, Eslabon Armado has released nine studio albums (five of which went platinum) and racked up six No. 1s on Billboard’s Top Regional Mexican Albums chart. They’ve also had their share of industry drama, including a 2024 dispute with their former record label Del Records.

“Everything happens for a reason, and we’ve gone through ups and downs in the industry. Everyone goes through it,” Tovar says. “You have to go through that type of stuff to be a better person, to be a better artist, to kind of learn the industry. … But just go with the flow.”
