“Why Not Wednesdays” is a midweek matinee event held the third Wednesday of each month. Beginning Nov. 19, one $11 ticket grants entry to shows at four venues in the district from 5 to 9 p.m.

“’Why Not Wednesdays’ is about reminding people that Red River doesn’t just come alive on the weekends,” RRCD Executive Director Nicole Klepadlo said in a news release. “We’re creating a fun, affordable midweek tradition that supports local venues, artists and restaurants, who are the lifeblood of our downtown community.”

The first edition will host 11 bands across four stages: Stubb’s indoor, Chess Club, Feel So Good and the 13th floor.

Building off the success of the collaboratively programmed free summer and winter festivals, the series unites venues to “create a much-needed economic boost” for the district, Klepadlo said.

“Why Not Wednesdays” is supported by Still Austin Whisky Co. and Tito’s Handmade Vodka, which will offer drink specials and host pop-up activations at participating venues. Expect additional activations from local artists and businesses as the series grows. The December edition will include a holiday market.

Proceeds from all four locations will go toward paying Austin musicians and funding future community events.

At just $1 per band, this is a perfect midweek bang-for-your-buck night out.

Established by a City Council resolution in October 2013, the RRCD is a downtown entertainment district with about 50 businesses, managed by the Red River Merchants Association. The organization promotes local music, art and live experiences that drive community, culture and tourism.
