New York rock label Equal Vision Records and Murals have shared their new offering “tough,” the latest single to be lifted from their just released seven-song EP Murals. The progressive post-hardcore trio’s new EP is an exciting new project that showcases three talented musicians exploring a multitude of styles, Murals EP serves as an innovative platform for the talents of Shane Gann (guitar/vocals), Blake Dahlinger (drums) and Tony Bautista (bass/vocals), whose personal and musical personalities mesh seamlessly.
“‘tough’ is about resilience and how the relatability of the human experience is found in each of us having our own individual struggles,” Bautista said. “Sometimes I win, sometimes I fail. Sometimes I care enough to open up. It’s all about the journey, not the destination. We’re the same in different places.”
In 2015, Gann approached Dahlinger about playing drums for a project called Sufferer — a standalone album about a day-in-the-life with anxiety and depression. Gann and Dahlinger would later recruit Bautista as the touring bassist for Sufferer, which also led them to invite him back to be involved with Murals. The pandemic changed Sufferer’s trajectory, and the group saw a broader set of opportunities opening up with Murals, so they decided to explore those.
The band’s mission is to help create real progressive, social change by offering support to those facing challenges and injustices in our modern world. All three members are full of heart, and listeners can distinctly hear their unique and evocative approaches to songwriting, arrangement, and vocal performance.
