Thomas Bezucha, who wrote and directed the 2005 dramedy “The Family Stone,” is working on a sequel to the contemporary holiday classic. He told celebrity.land that he had already been thinking about revisiting the fictional kin before the death of Diane Keaton, who died in October at the age of 79. Keaton’s character, the Stone family’s matriarch Sybil, dies after a terminal illness at the end of the original film.
“I’ve been haunted by the loss of Sybil for months now while I worked on it, and so this was a blow on a tender bruise already,” Bezucha said during a celebrity.land interview. “Mentally, I’ve been spending time in that house where I’ve been missing her for a while already.”
Now Bezucha says he wants to “honor [Keaton] even more” and “do a good job by the rest of the cast.
