It has been seven years since Duchess Meghan (née Meghan Markle) was launched into the mega spotlight as the new bride of Prince Harry. While Meghan had been used to a level of fame, as she was an actress in the popular show Suits, becoming a royal brought the attention on her to an entirely new level. Soon, she was on every newspaper and magazine cover, with headlines speculating about her relationship with Harry, her past, and her alleged feuds with Harry’s royal family members. It was the constant criticism that caused her and Harry to step away from their roles as senior royals in 2020 and move to Montecito, California, to raise their family.
In her December cover story for Harper’s Bazaar, Meghan admits, “I think my boundaries became stronger once I came into the public eye in this very… I could think of any adjective to fill the blank. And it would probably work. You find different ways to protect yourself, whether that’s self-preservation or it’s just growing up.”

This past Paris Fashion Week, Meghan even made some unexpected appearances, showing up to the Balenciaga show to support designer Pierpaolo Piccioli in his debut for the brand. “I was excited for him,” Meghan says. “I reached out and I said, ‘Happy to come and support you.’ We kept it a secret, and it was really fun.”
She adds that she’s found a way to balance having fun, working hard, and being a mom and homemaker. “I love being able to do both,” Meghan says, “to play in the sandbox with my kids and to play in the front row at a show. I think the moment that you start making all of your personal decisions based on external judgment, then you lose your authenticity.”
