Karoline Leavitt has finally addressed her three-decade age gap with her husband, Nicholas Riccio.
Known for her straightforward press briefings, the 28-year-old White House Press Secretary tied the knot with her 60-year-old spouse this past January, just days before President Donald Trump‘s second inauguration. The pair, who first crossed paths when Leavitt was 25 and got engaged in 2023, welcomed their son, Niko, in July 2024.
Leavitt recently opened up about her unconventional romance during an interview on the Pod Force One with Miranda Devine podcast. When asked by Devine, “Could you not find boys your own age, who are as mature?” the Republican responded with a laugh, “Honestly, no, if you want to know the truth,” after acknowledging that the relationship was “very unusual.”
Regarding her parents’ reaction to the significant age difference, Leavitt confessed that they initially struggled to accept Riccio. “But then, of course, once they got to know him and saw who he is as a man, and his character and how much he adores me, I think it became quite easy for them,” she elaborated.
“And now we’re all friends. I mean, it’s a typical family relationship,” she asserted, adding, “My husband has such respect for my parents and the way that they raised me, and we all have a lot of fun together when they come to visit.”
During the interview, Karoline discussed the contrasting personalities between herself and Nicholas, explaining, “He’s very introverted, unlike me. He stays behind the scenes. He’s not on social media.”
Despite the property developer’s “very private” nature, Karoline praised him as “an incredibly hands-on father.”
“He and my son are just the best of friends,” she added, emphasizing, “He’s just an amazing guy and he is my number one fan. He watches every interview, every press briefing.”
The 60-year-old real estate developer from New Hampshire owns more than a dozen rental properties leased to families, People reports. “He’s a self-made man, which I respect… He’s built his career, so he’s in a place where he can support me in mine,” Karoline shared.
Due to his preference for privacy, Karoline seldom features her husband on social media. Nevertheless, she recently offered followers a peek into their Palm Beach getaway.
This past weekend, she provided her 2.6 million followers with glimpses of the trip through multiple photos and videos. One story captured her cruising along the sunny coastline with the caption, “The ocean is my happy place.”
She also posted a photo of her meal at the Four Seasons Hotel in Palm Beach, writing, “Favorite breakfast spot with my hubs,” a reference to her husband. The tone of Karoline’s posts changed later in the day when she shared a photo of a Bible page, highlighting the quote, “For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
Soon after, Karoline shared another quote, “What a privilege it is to have your bed taken up by a small human who thinks it’s the safest place in the world to be,” and wrote “crying” over it. The Press Secretary didn’t offer any additional context for her mysterious remarks.
