Following the release of its first three episodes, HBO has officially moved forward with their plans to renew the Rachel Sennott-led comedy series, I Love LA, for a second season, as reported by Variety.

Though it has yet to reach the halfway point in its inaugural season, I Love LA’s positive response and high viewership numbers have established it as a significant hit at HBO, leaving its second season renewal hardly a surprise.

The announcement came from HBO in conjunction with the news that The Chair Company, a similarly off-beat comedy series starring I Think You Should Leave comedian Tim Robinson, has similarly been renewed for a second season.

As with I Love LA, The Chair Company‘s successful first season and overwhelmingly positive critical reviews ultimately helped the show secure a second season at the network.

“We’re thrilled by the incredible response to The Chair Company and I Love LA debuts,” said Amy Gravitt, EVP of HBO Programming and head of HBO and HBO Max comedy series. “Both shows confidently carry on the HBO comedy tradition, in their own singular way. We couldn’t be happier to continue collaborating with Tim, Zach, Rachel and their exceptional teams.”

As viewers who have tuned in to the series’ first three episodes are sure to know, I Love LA follows a group of diverse friends in their 20s who reunite in the glamorous streets of Los Angeles.

Co-starring Odessa A’zion, True Whitaker, Jordan Firstman and Josh Hutcherson, the series has earned mostly positive reviews from critics, with particular praise geared towards Sennott’s lead performance.

“An irreverent and self-referential comedy speaking to Gen Z existentialism, I Love LA is equal parts funny and cringe thanks to creator Rachel Sennott’s absurdist sensibility,” deems Rotten Tomatoes.

I Love LA will continue to air in weekly installments every Sunday. The finale episode will arrive on HBO on December 21.
