As per News 18, based on a tip-off that cannabis was being sold in the Thirumangalam area of Chennai, the police first arrested a man named Thiageswaran. During the initial interrogation, it was revealed that Sharfudeen was one of the people who was buying the cannabis. Following this, the police took swift action and arrested Sharfudeen, his associate businessman Sarath, and Srinivasan, a resident of Mogappair East. During the arrest, 10 grams of cannabis and approximately 27 lakh rupees in cash were also seized.During the ongoing investigation by the police, it came to light that some film celebrities had been gathering at night at Sharfudeen’s house on Eldam Road and using drugs. This has significantly changed the scope of the case. The police investigation has also revealed that Sharfudeen was not only a co-producer but also had connections in various circles.

Furthermore, the background to the seized Rs 27 lakh has also raised great suspicion. Initially, it was reported that this money belonged to the strategic group of a prominent political party, for which Sharfudeen was said to have worked.
