Sammy Tornabene and Nick Ruisi each scored 19 points to power the University of Scranton to an 83-60 victory over Goucher College in a Landmark Conference men’s basketball matchup Saturday at the John Long Center.

A 14-2 run in the opening five minutes put the Royals (1-1 league, 4-1 overall) in control early. They led at halftime, 40-21, and their largest lead was 29 points on four occasions, the last time coming at 78-49 on a 3-pointer by Ruisi with 4:56 left in the second half.

Ruisi scored 13 of his points in the second half. He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Luca Baratta and Josias Carbon added 10 points apiece for Scranton. Ben Robinson totaled six points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Darnell Morris had 15 points for Goucher (0-2, 0-4), which is coached by Abington Heights and Scranton grad Justin Klingman.

Marywood 83, Rosemont 53: At Scranton, Marywood University scored the first seven points and never trailed on its way to a nonconference win over Rosemont College at Insalaco Arena.

Michel Loftin led four players in double figures with 14 points. Shilo Bevins added 13, Noah Perry followed with 12 and Collin Himmelberg chipped in 10 for the Pacers (4-1), who won their third straight. Bivins also grabbed nine rebounds.

Utica 86, Keystone 69: At Utica, New York, Keystone College dropped its fifth straight in a nonconference game against Utica University.

Jden Golding had 22 points and nine rebounds for the Giants (1-5). Tyler Ditton scored 13 points off the bench, while Josh Brown and Ahmodrion Jones netted 10 points each.

Utica used a 13-0 run midway through the first half to turn a one-point deficit into a 26-14 lead and the Pioneers (4-1) never trailed after that.

Lackawanna 68, Delaware Tech CC 61: At Scranton, Lackawanna College nearly squandered a 22-point lead, but held on to defeat Delaware Tech CC in a NJCAA Region 19 Division II game at the Lackawanna Student Union.

Jaksa Pejovic scored 13 points — all in the second half — and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Falcons (1-1, 5-2). Latrell Mark added 12 points, all of which came in the first half, seven rebounds and four steals.

Lackawanna led at halftime, 34-19, and extended it to 43-21 in the opening three minutes of the second half. But Delaware Tech chipped away at the deficit and got to within 66-60 with 24 seconds left. But one foul shot each by Noah McIntosh and and Pejovic sealed the win for the Falcons.

Women’s basketball

At Scranton, Meghan Lamanna and Elizabeth Bennett scored 11 points apiece as No. 2 ranked University of Scranton romped past Goucher College, 90-48, in a Landmark Conference game and its home opener at the John Long Center.

Kaci Kranson had 10 points and five rebounds for the Lady Royals (2-0, 5-0), who had 15 players reach the scoring column.

Marywood 66, Bryn Mawr 53: At Bryn Mawr, Marywood used a 19-5 advantage in the third quarter to break open a six-point halftime lead and defeat Bryn Mawr College in a nonconference game.

Anyah Ortiz had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Pacers (2-3). Seven of Ortiz’s points came in the third quarter. Megan Cavoli contributed 14 points off the bench and Olivia Ciullo added 13 points.

Marywood’s largest lead was 61-40 on a layup by Alli Anstadt with 6:36 left in the fourth quarter.

Lackawanna 68, Delaware Tech CC 64: At Scranton, Abbie Larson hit three free throws in the final 10 seconds to secure a NJCAA Region 19 Division II win for Lackawanna College over Delaware Tech CC at the Lackawanna Student Union.

Sophia Summa and Alania Ortiz each scored 22 points for the Lady Falcons (2-0, 3-4). Ortiz also had 14 rebounds, five assists and six steals. Desiree Nales chipped in 12 points.

With 6:39 left, Lackawanna led, 63-51, but Delaware Tech rallied to within 65-64 before Larson stopped the comeback bid with her foul shots.

Wrestling

At Allentown, Keystone College competed in the Muhlenberg College Scotty Wood Invitational and was ninth out of nine teams in the standings with 12.5 points. Messiah College won with 163.5 points, followed by Elizabethtown College with 154 and Muhlenberg with 104.

Nero Bono placed fourth at 197 pounds for the Giants. He had two wins by technical fall to reach the semifinals, where he lost to eventual champion Tucker Seidel of Messiah by technical fall. In the third-place match, Bono dropped a 5-4 decision to Messiah’s Tim Eddinger.

Albright 35, Scranton 15: At Reading, the University of Scranton lost a dual meet to Albright College.

Joseph Cappello had a major decision at 125 pounds for the Royals. Aidan Veirun won by technical fall at 149 pounds and Max Shnipes had a pin in 41 seconds at 285 pounds.
