King Charles could be set to travel to the US to mark the 250th anniversary of the country next year, it has been reported. It will mark his first visit since 2018, when he represented Queen Elizabeth II at George H. W. Bush’s funeral.
Granted that the King’s health allows him to travel, US President Donald Trump will host His Majesty during the lavish State Visit in April 2026. Sources in both Washington DC and London told the Sun that negotiations are taking place for the visit, which will likely see Queen Camilla accompany her husband.
The trip will take place in the run-up to America’s July 4 Independence Day celebrations.
Revealing plans for the visit, the newspaper shared that President Trump is planning on hosting a number of events to mark Independence Day.
It has been reported that the King’s health will be closely monitored, with the royal having celebrated his 77th birthday earlier this month.
The King is also still undergoing cancer treatment following his diagnosis in February 2024. At the time of writing, Buckingham Palace have not confirmed that the trip will take place.
The visit will come just months after the King and Queen hosted US President Donald Trump and his wife, First Lady Melania, in September.
A White House official close to Mr Trump previously told The Telegraph: “It was a really fantastic trip. The British know how to do this perfectly. They set the bar high for their trip to see us.”
