The Untouchable Spencer Tiara: Why Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle Can’t Wear It |

The Royal Family have had yet another busy year, but despite their efforts to serve the crown, it has been stained by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s disgraceful association with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. King Charles severed ties with his brother by stripping him of his titles and honours and banishing him to a house on his Sandringham estate; however, the relentless royal turmoil still haunts the Firm like a dark shadow that stubbornly refuses to fade away.

But amid all the drama surrounding the disgraced former Duke, there is one royal event, taking place in just a few days’ time, which has consistently remained a shining light in December, no matter the hardships the Firm had faced – the Princess of Wales’s Christmas carol service. Catherine’s Together at Christmas Carol Concert will be taking place on December 5 at Westminster Abbey.

This year is an especially poignant one for the future Queen, who will honour love “in all its forms” and also pay a sweet tribute to the late Duchess of Kent.

It will be the fifth time the princess has hosted the event, which has become a major fixture in the royal calendar. Last year, despite her cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment, Catherine made a triumphant return to the beloved festive event, in what was one of her major appearances of the difficult year.

A poignant event I always look forward to, the Princess of Wales’s carol concert always seems to emerge as a rare moment of grace, as the royal chooses to dismiss all kinds of drama and instead unite as many people over their shared passions and efforts for a brighter future.

Particularly this year, Catherine’s decision to celebrate the power of love and togetherness, and to recognise and thank people from around the country who are acting with love in their communities, appears to be not just a seasonal theme, but a pointed statement.

I’m not usually one to write opinion pieces, but we simply can’t ignore the storm around the monarchy right now. Week after week, new details bring fresh waves of humiliation for Andrew, a member of the Firm who once advocated its values.

But in the darkness of this storm, Catherine’s concert is a deliberate counterforce; a poignant and targeted attempt that shines bright in its bid to re-centre the monarchy’s focus on compassion, community and unity.

It is not a form of escapism, but rather a public reaffirmation of what the crown can represent, even when it’s under strain.

Catherine’s return to the event for the fifth time in a row, after what was dubbed a “brutal” year last year due to her cancer diagnosis, also sends out a firm message, one of not just survival, but of hope.

Her carol service has now effectively become a royal milestone in her own journey back to strength.

So let us cherish that against the backdrop of any scandal, and in a world craving hope, Princess Catherine’s gentle but unwavering light can guide all of us through the darkness for a future anchored by selfless love, unity and hope.

Let the jingle bells rock!
