After nearly 50 years of working country music and rock airwaves across the country, “The John Boy and Bill Show” is signing off.
According to multiple reports, the news comes nearly a year after the show was dropped form its flagship station.
A job posting by Class Rock WIMZ 103.5 in Knoxville first broke the news announcing that the station was “searching for dynamic, creative, and engaging talents to launch a brand-new, live and local morning show.
“With the legendary John Boy and Billy Network signing off on December 31, we’re seizing the opportunity to create something truly unique and embedded in the community.”
John Isley and Billy James first took to the air together in 1981 with their morning show airing out of 107.9 WBCY in Charlotte.
With their comedy bits John Boy and Billy became popular nationwide. They released a string of comedy albums — 23 altogether — through the 80s and into the 2000s.
The show reportedly peaked at 100 stations across the country in the early 2000s, but that number has dropped off in recent years.
It reportedly now airs on 37 stations across the South and Midwest.
