Guy Fieri has had a rough couple of weeks and things just got a lot worse after the celebrity chef suffered a serious injury that caused him to be rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery.
Fieri made the revelation during a recent interview with Fox News Digital.
“Slipped down a set of steps and one foot went forward and the other foot got caught on the threshold,” Fieri said. “So, you know, it extended me out. I looked like I was probably doing the splits, but when my right leg compressed into itself the giveaway point and the doctor said he’s never seen — you know, in 20 years — he hasn’t seen a tear in the biggest, thickest part of your quad in half. Yeah, it sucked.”
Fieri said he was currently in a wheelchair, and that the reason that he had to be rushed into surgery was so that the muscle didn’t “recede.”
“You normally tear that muscle at your tendon or the tendon tears off the bone, but this was right in the center of the whole quad muscle and it exploded,” he said.
Fox reported that Fieri was working on filming his new show, “Flavor Town Food Fight,” when the incident occurred.
“So, right in the middle of filming that and we’ve got everybody in two and all the chefs there and 125 people on set — and everybody’s ready to go — and I’m in surgery,” Fieri said. “So, we figured out how to pivot through it and to have some creative filming techniques. But it’s been a run, and now I’m up here at the ranch, where it’s always about hiking and outdoors, and you know, beautiful.
“Eight weeks of no weight on it, crutches and a cast and then the rehab, which to me — I want to get after it as fast as possible,” he added.
This all comes after the 57-year-old Food Network star’s fans were sending him prayers last week after he shared a photo on what would have been his late father’s birthday.
“Happy 83rd birthday to my hero,” Fieri wrote alongside a photo of his family seated at a table. “My dad ‘Jamps.’ We miss you everyday and appreciate all the life lessons and guidance. Happy birthday wise old owl!!!”
The Food Network star’s father, Jim Ferry, died back on Jan. 27, 2024 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Fieri discussed his father’s cancer battle prior to his death.
“He’s been a great advocate for people that have gone through it,” Fieri told People Magazine in 2022. “Because there’s not a lot of knowledge about it. It’s not a great success rate. But I think you got to live every single day. That’s the biggest thing, is you never know what tomorrow’s going to bring.”
Jim Ferry was not the first person in Fieri’s family who died after battling cancer. Hi sister, Jules, died from melanoma in 2011, and he and his wife raised her son, Jules, who was 11 at the time.
