MAY-A Announces Debut Album, Shares New Single

After two years of travelling back and forth between Sydney and LA, the genre-defying singer-songwriter is entering an exciting new era of music with Goodbye (If You Call That Gone), set for release on February 20th of next year.

Fans have already been treated to tasters of the forthcoming record through recent singles “(I’m Here for the) Girls” and “[REDACTED]”, the latter having launched MAY-A new chapter.

MAY-A has today dropped “Claws”, the latest single from her debut album.

“‘Claws’ was definitely me processing a lot of anger. It feels special because I wrote it from such a place of anger and mistreatment and betrayal and just looking back and being so mad at things that had happened to me,” she told Rolling Stone AU/NZ in a new interview.

“We kind of kicked off the themes of the album, and thematically and sonically it’s stepping into more of a harder space. I think that it’s the perfect sort of bridging gap between something like ‘Girls’ and the rest of the album, it gets slowly heavier as you as you go along.”

The music video for “Claws” will drop at 5pm AEDT today (November 28th).

Goodbye (If You Call That Gone) is a bold declaration of MAY-A’s independence, power, artistry, and creativity, elevated through collaborators such as Carlos De La Garza (Paramore), Chloe Dadd, Chris Greatti (Yungblud, Willow), Robby De Sa, and Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame drummer Ilan Rubin.

The album pushes boundaries and blurs the line between pop, rock, indie, and alternative genres, something MAY-A has become known for. “I really didn’t want this album to get tied down into any specific sound or genre. I think I’ve kind of avoided that for my whole musical career thus far, because I don’t really know where I want to go,” she said.

“I didn’t want to lock myself too much into emo or too much into rock or too much into pop or soft pop or any of the other sub genres that there are, I kind of wanted that open slate for whatever I do next.”

It’s been a busy 12 months for the Australian artist. She opened for UK outfit Glass Animals on their Australian headline tour in 2024, played to a roaring crowd at Yours & Owls in March, and was handpicked by Cyndi Lauper to sing “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” at her sold-out Sydney show.

Next up, fans will be able to see MAY-A and the MAY-A band (Chloe Dadd and G on the Drums) perform some of new songs live next month at Rolling Sets in Tweed Heads on November 29th and the Central Coast on December 6th — see here for ticket information.

MAY-A’s “Claws” is out now. Goodbye (If You Call That Gone) is out February 20th, 2026.
