Bubba Sparxxx, Yung Joc, 702 to perform New Year's Eve in Fayetteville

Fayetteville and the Cool Spring Downtown District will ring in its annual A District New Year’s Eve Spectacular with nationally known rappers Bubba Sparxxx and Yung Joc and R&B headlining group 702.

The celebration will start at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 31 and continue until 12:30 a.m. Jan. 1 at Festival Park, 335 Ray Ave. in Fayetteville, a Nov. 18 news release from the Cool Spring Downtown District states.

Past headliners at the New Year’s Eve celebration, now in its fifth year, include Arrested Development, Spinderella, Tony! Toni! Toné! and Coolio.

The event is open to the public at no cost. Here’s what else to know about this year’s festivities.

This year’s acts

R&B group 702, formed in Las Vegas, takes its name from the city’s area code, and its current lineup consists of Misha Grinstead and Meelah Williams.

Their debut album, “No Doubt,” is certified Gold and features hits like “Steelo” and “Get It Together,” and the group’s self-titled second album, “702,” features the top five Billboard Hot 100 hit “Where My Girls At?”

Bubba Sparxxx, born Warren Anderson Mathis, gained mainstream success with his 2001 album “Dark Days, Bright Nights,” which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and features the hit lead single “Ugly.”

Sparxxx, known for blending hip-hop with country, followed up with “Deliverance” in 2003, and his third album, “The Charm,” was released in 2006 and features the hit “Ms. New Booty.”

Yung Joc, born Jasiel Amon Robinson, is known for his 2006 hit single “It’s Goin’ Down,” which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

His debut album, “New Joc City,” was certified platinum, while his second album, “Hustlenomics,” was released in 2007 and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

Yung Joc is also featured on T-Pain’s hit song “Buy U a Drank,” and is a radio host and television personality, seen on “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.”

What else to expect

According to the Cool Spring Downtown District, the District NYE Spectacular will also feature several other local bands and electric DJ dance sets on the stage.

Organizers said food trucks, children’s activities and more will be on site “in an atmosphere alive with color, lights, sounds, and entertaining performances.”
